Sometimes people want to know a little about their therapist. I’m an animal lover (enthusiastic “dog person!”), music geek, and bookworm. I spend much of my free time hiking, traveling near and far, making (controlled) messes in the kitchen, and catching live music. You’ll likely hear my incredibly cute dog, Poppy (a rescue boxer mix), snoring during our virtual sessions. It’s not you, she just loves snoozing.
By training and education, I’m a licensed clinical social worker, holistic nutritionist, and a board-certified health coach with nearly two decades of clinical experience, helping women just like you and me live healthier, happier, more authentic lives. (If you’re curious about my official education and training, click here).
And while I’m kind of a nerd and love learning, my personal struggles have informed my work with clients just as much as any degree or training ever could; probably more.
I’ve dealt with depression since adolescence, anxiety since young adulthood. I started self-medicating with food (eating too much, or not at all, or purging) as a young teenager. My relationships with alcohol and with guys were problematic for many years before I could admit it, let alone do anything about it.
I tell you this because I want you to know: I get it.
Talk therapy wasn’t enough. Yoga wasn’t enough. Reading all the self-help books I could find wasn’t enough. None of these things by themselves helped me stop drinking or eating all the food or sabotaging relationships. Nothing by itself, no one single thing, really got rid of that dark cloud that had become my near-constant companion – one that no one knew about, except for me.
It wasn’t until I started addressing mind, body, and spirit that I found sustainable change, and could help others find it, too. Because you know what? They’re not separate. For more on my holistic approach, click here.
My life looks nothing like it did in my 20’s and early 30’s. I’m enjoying my journey on the other side of healing now. It took work, broken down into lots of baby-stepping, bit by bit. And it took so much support, but also major radical self-care, self-compassion, and self-acceptance.
It’s also ongoing. As your therapist, you have my word that I am committed to continue doing my own work and exploration in order to help me support yours.
What it’s like to work with me
I do things a little differently than most therapists.
I’m down-to-earth, believe in the healing and connective power of humor, and won’t shy away from a cuss word or two.
We get real, together. And it’s sometimes even kinda fun.
I’ve been told by first-time clients that they feel comfortable with me within minutes. They also tell me they feel more welcome and accepted, and that they’ve covered more in a first session with me than in multiple sessions with other therapists. (It’s so important to find a good fit.)
You can always expect to be treated with compassion and respect.
You deserve a space where you matter most. Where you are uniquely seen and celebrated.
What I hope you’ll gain in our work together:
- Radical self-care, self-compassion, and self-acceptance
- Peace from the non-stop mind-chatter; a little quiet
- Tools and techniques that help with big feelings, overwhelm, and upset
- Shifting unhelpful or unhealthy lifestyle habits that are keeping you stuck and feeling like crap
- Major improvements in staying present
- The ability to ask for what you need and to set (and stick to!) boundaries
- Sharpening your ability to listen to your intuition and to trust yourself again (or maybe for the first time)
